Holidays are the best time of year, not only because we all finally spend that much needed time with our families, but because it gives us an excuse to bake and entertain! This Christmas, because I was cooking Christmas dinner with my mom and dad, I wanted to save some trouble and cut corners for dessert. Days before Christmas, while shopping at Marshall’s, I found a boxed mix for fireside chocolate peppermint crunch bars by Canterbury Naturals.
I usually am not a fan of unfamiliar brands when it comes to pre made mixes, but I decided to go out on a limb and just go with it (which is pretty surprising since I got a bad batch of pie filling the last time I store bought). But Canterbury Naturals came out with an enticing holiday collection of mixes that are just divine!
The Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Bars are seriously one of the best things that I have ever eaten, let alone made. There is something about the combination of chocolate and peppermint that really tickles my tastebuds, and it is one of my favorite flavors of the holidays. The recipe only requires you add some eggs, oil and water and you can very easily create a triple layer delight. A shortbread crust, a silky chocolate batter and crushed peppermint topping all harmonize to create a decadent dessert. These can be a bit gooey, so make sure you refrigerate them overnight. I only got great reviews for these tasty little delights, they went faster than anything I have ever baked. I am excited to try another one of Canterbury Naturals mixes next time I need a quick fix.
