“So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.” ~ Jorge Luis Borges
There are few things more rewarding than planting your own garden. Whether it’s vegetables, herbs, flowers or trees, being able to enjoy your outdoor surroundings is quite therapeutic, beautiful and empowering (the above mentioned quote is from my favorite poem of all time, which can be found here). On the contrary, one of the saddest things ever is watching your plants die. Some of us are better plant killers than others, but the good news is, with every season comes a new opportunity to plant and re-grow! It’s always refreshing having a clean slate to work off of, all you gotta do is ditch your dead blooms and stock up on freshies at your local nursery.
In Springtime, the climate is typically wetter and cooler than the summer temperatures us humans wait for all year long. But be careful – you need to monitor your plants sun and water intake in the Summer, too. Even the sun scorches when you get too much of it. If you are like me and like to plant your own, below is a list of seasonal beauties that will surely add some color to your yard. Don’t forget to plant a few veggies too, tomatoes, lettuce and herbs are great to have on hand in the summer so you can throw together a quick salad when guests come over.
Another great thing about flowers in the summer? They are all on sale at the grocery store! There is usually an abundance of whatever flower is hot at the moment, so pick up a few bunches (with some smaller stock blooms to break them up) to scatter around your side tables at home. Flowers not only brighten up the place, but they create a nice flow of natural energy typically lacking in the cold winter months 🙂
